Ginny Morris

Ginny Morris, a third generation broadcaster, is the Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Hubbard Radio, LLC. Hubbard Radio operates 30 radio stations in Chicago, Washington DC, Seattle, Phoenix, Minneapolis-St. Paul, St. Louis, and Cincinnati.

While still in college in 1982, Ginny began working in the promotion department of their flagship TV station, KSTP-TV. She started with special projects and promotional events and eventually became the manager of that department in 1985.

In July 1990, she was asked to take on the challenge of managing KSTP- AM, the original holding of the Hubbard Family’s broadcasting business (originally licensed as WAMD in 1923). It was in that role that Ginny developed her true passion for and interest in the radio business. In May 1995, she added KSTP-FM (KS95) to her duties, becoming President and General Manager of both KSTP radio properties.

Having had success with developing local talent for KSTP-AM, the company began syndicating it’s talent on a regional basis and formed a new company, the Hubbard Radio Network in August 1999. The Hubbard Radio Network works with 26 affiliates throughout the Upper Midwest and continues to add stations.

Hubbard Radio purchased WIXK-AM/FM in New Richmond, Wisconsin, in December 2000. In June 2002, WIXK-FM was moved to the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The format was changed to a new type of Talk Radio, and is now referred to as myTalk107.1. MyTalk107.1 is one of the first, if not the only, FM talk station in the country building talk programming for women.

A former Chair of the NAB Radio Board, Ginny currently serves on the Executive Committee of the RAB (Radio Advertisers Bureau) and serves on the board of BMI (Broadcast Music Inc.) and the Library of American Broadcasting.

An active member of the Twin City community, her current and former civic board experience includes Chairing the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce. Ginny also currently serves on the boards of MinnCann and St. Thomas Academy.
In 2000, Ginny was named President of Hubbard Radio, delegating much of the day-to-day operations to others in the growing organization.

Ginny and her two children live in St. Paul, Minnesota.

HUBBARD RADIO TAKES THE NATIONAL RADIO TALENT SYSTEM WEST

With four Institutes in the south and east, the National Radio Talent System is now in the great Northwest with the Hubbard Radio Talent Institute at Central Washington University in Washington State.

Hubbard Radio’s Chair and CEO, Ginny Morris, commented: “Compelling and relatable on air talent is what separates local radio from all other audio entertainment services. The Radio Talent Institute builds upon the already quality education students are receiving at the university and through working at their college radio station. All sessions in the Institute are taught by professional broadcasters in each of their areas of expertise. The sessions during the Institute include on-air, production, news, sports, interactive, social media, promotions and sales, including the Radio Marketing Professional course from RAB.

This innovative concept has the broadcast profession, the universities, and the National Radio Talent System working together to find, teach and develop well-rounded and well-educated fresh talent to bring into the industry today and prepare the next generation of broadcast leaders for tomorrow.

Vallie founded the National Radio Talent System in 2013 as the first program of its kind in the world, with a mission to create a radio talent system (a talent incubator) by placing a Radio Talent Institute on a college campus in every region of the country so radio stations can recruit young talent from their own region or nationally.

The National Radio Talent System

Dan Vallie, a lifelong radio broadcaster, is the innovator and founder of the National Radio Talent System™ and the Radio Talent Institute™. The program gives each student a learning experience they could not get anywhere else. The National Radio Talent Institute team uses its contacts and reputation in the radio industry to invite radio professionals to teach during the institute.The National Radio Talent System™, the only program of its kind in the world, was created to answer the long discussed issue of a radio talent farm for the industry, an incubator of well-rounded, well-educated college talent with a passion for radio and a determination to get into the business.

The vision of a Radio Talent System has become reality and now radio professionals recruit from young talent who are just as determined and passionate about getting into radio as you were. And the talent system continues to grow with more institutes across the country and support from broadcaster groups, individual broadcasters, and broadcast associations.
